Visitor to my blog

Today I am pleased to be joined by Ross Greenwood, who has taken time out of his busy schedule of promoting his new book Shadows of Regret to join me on my blog today.  I am currently reading this book and have to say it is brilliant and can’t wait to share my thoughts with you when I have finished.  Now to join Ross and hear what he has to say about: -

“The Book World”

I finished my first book four years ago. After numerous people read it and said they really enjoyed it, I sat at home one night and realised I had no idea what to do with it. Initially, I was hoping to get it made into a few books, just so I could hold it and say it was mine.

As with all things nowadays, I typed, ‘How to get published,’ into google and my journey began.

I’m sure everyone will tell you that writing the book is only part of the journey. I would say it’s more of a ride; a real rollercoaster if you can excuse the cliché. It is hard work to finish a book and takes over your life for a while. Then you have rejections, false dawns, bad reviews, poor sales, I’ve even had people take my ideas after discussing them.

At times you wonder why you do it. But there is also the good. Once Linda Hill had introduced me to a few groups and gave me some friendly advice, I found there were many like me out there. There’s a lovely community of readers in a variety of book clubs who are happy to give their time and help, even a pleasant comment, for nothing in return. It’s just a mutual love of books. For an author, finding a great review on waking is a fantastic way to start the day.

There are other writers who you become friends with on the way. The vast majority of those are helpful and give their excellent feedback on manuscripts when I’m sure they have their own books to write. There really are too many of them for me to name.

Finally, there are bloggers, like Bev. I didn’t even know what they did, or why, at the start. They are a vital part of any book launch, and they, too, do it for the love of literature. Incredibly, they get a fair amount of grief and abuse from certain unsavoury sources.

So instead of doing a post about my book, I thought I’d just take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all those who’ve supported me and other writers over the years. It really is appreciated.

Now, I for one am grateful for Ross joining me on my blog today and sharing his writing journey and how he came to join the wonderful book world.  Even more thanks go to him for understanding the work us bloggers put in on a daily basis to share the book love.  

Now a bit of news, I am taking a step back this year from doing blog tours, not because I don't like doing them, no I LOVE THEM, but I have so many wonderful books just itching to be read that I feel I really should read some of them.  I am also ashamed to say that I have a few books of Ross' on my kindle and in paperback so by taking a bit of a break I know that I will eventually get round to reading these and then can share my thoughts. 

About the Author

 

Ross Greenwood was born in 1973 in Peterborough and lived there until he was 20, attending The King's School in the city. He then began a rather nomadic existence, living and working all over the country and various parts of the world.

 

Ross found himself returning to Peterborough many times over the years, usually, so he says “when things had gone wrong.” It was on one of these occasions that he met his partner about 100 metres from his back door whilst walking a dog. Two children swiftly followed. And, according to Ross, he is “still a little stunned by the pace of it now.”

Lazy Blood book was started a long time ago but parenthood and then four years as a prison officer got in the way. Ironically it was the four a.m. feed which gave the author the opportunity to finish the book as unable to get back to sleep he completed it in the early morning hours.

Ross Greenwood’s second book, The Boy Inside, was picked up by Bloodhound Books, and in September 2017, Fifty Years of Fear was published. The year 2018 saw the publication of his next psychological thriller, Abel’s Revenge. All his books are thought provoking, and told with a sense of humour.

Review

The Suspect is the first book I have read by Fiona Barton despite having copies of her previous books in my TBR list.  I now need to rectify this as this was an excellent read.

We meet Kate, a reporter for a local newspaper who goes to Thailand on the premise of trying to find out what happened to two girls who had gone missing from a backpacking holiday (Alex and Rosie).  However, Kate’s personal reason for going is to see if she can locate her son Jake who she believes in in Phuket.

We are treated to the story told from multiple points of view (POV) and sometimes when reading books like this I struggle but this one seems to flow effortlessly and seamlessly.  We follow Alex’s story of how she regrets going away with Rosie as despite them planning this trip together after Alex’s best friend Mags dropped out.  Rosie has not the slightest intention of doing what Alex Feels from the way she communicates with Mags.

By all account we are embroiled with characters from previous books like D I Bob Sparkes, along with Kate the reporter. I found that the kind of understanding that these two have makes a great working relationship.

A few twists and unexpected outcomes as the book progressed and a few guesses from me as to how the story would pan out. 

All in all, an excellent book and one author whose previous books I can’t wait to read.
